Fotokids Original organisation has served nearly a thousand at-risk children affected by poverty and violence for over 24 years. Currently Fotokids is working with 270 young people from Guatemala/Honduras and more recently with children of farmworkers in California’s Central Valley. Fotokids uses photography, graphic design, web design, video and media technology as a tool for self-expression, creativity, leadership, and vocational training experience. All students not only learn employable skills with Fotokids but they receive scholarships to study in traditional schools.
The program works! Many Fotokids students from desperately poor barrios have attended university and continue to find good jobs in their home countries.

The project: « Life skills for girls»
In 2007, Fotokids began it’s first gender based technology program for young women called Save Girls. The Save Girls program, a 3-year technology course, teaches web design, flash graphic design, illustration, video production, photo story narration and commercial studio photography. The support of Give a Hand will allow Fotokids to expand its existing program to Santiago de Atitlan where they have been working since 1997, originally with the children affected by Guatemala’s civil war.
Fotokids will use its successful curriculum that is based on developing visual and writing skills to stimulate discussion and promote creativity.
Further to this initial training, the objective would be to enroll the participants into Fotokids “Save the Girls “three-year diploma class.
